Program Overview
Prepare for administrative healthcare careers with our Medical Billing and Coding program! Students can familiarize themselves with common insurance types, reimbursement policies, healthcare systems, and more. As part of our program, students can prepare to sit for a coding certification exam*.
Enrollment is on a rolling basis and programs start every five weeks. Only students enrolled in the hybrid track of this program are eligible for externship opportunities.

Skills You'll Cover in the Medical Billing and coding Program
Students are exposed to the administrative and financial responsibilities performed in medical offices. Practice setting priorities, using Electronic Health Records (EHR), and making informed decisions as part of a healthcare team.
Practice using medical coding manuals to assign diagnostic and procedural codes. Students have the opportunity to gain experience translating information found in patient files into medical codes.
Practice identifying differences between Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), traditional insurance, group plans and more. Students have the chance to practice completing CMS1500 claim forms as well as processing and billing insurance claims.
Study how disease impacts the body. Practice informing patients about the disease process, preventative measures they could take, and how to maintain their overall health.
Examine career opportunities available in health information management while studying healthcare delivery systems, healthcare reimbursement processes, applicable health record formats, and health information storage.
Students will train to identify commonly prescribed medications in healthcare. Review drug classifications and the impact these medications have on the disease process.
Review how to apply coding guidelines, analyze health records, apply reimbursement methodologies and more as you study in preparation for your coding licensure exam. Students are expected to schedule a time to sit for this exam as part of this course.
