Each course is led by industry-experienced instructors who guide students through hands-on training.
Our program exposes students to proper shop safety procedures and materials to prepare for the EPA Section 608 certification. Upon successful completion, students will receive a diploma in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Basic Refrigeration.
Whether you want to change careers or enter this field for the first time, our program has plenty to offer.
Refrigeration Technician Responsibilities
A refrigeration technician’s responsibilities include installing, troubleshooting, and repairing refrigeration systems such as walk-in coolers, vending machines, and refrigerators. Once new units are installed, they observe and test them to ensure they function properly.
They also process and complete work orders, perform routine maintenance to guarantee optimal performance, and maintain stock levels.
While HVAC specialists can work on refrigeration systems, their specialties are heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units. Refrigeration technicians take HVAC a step further with specialized training in different types of refrigeration systems.
They provide an in-depth understanding of various refrigeration system types and can interpret technical instructions and blueprints. Their clientele–which can be industrial, commercial, or residential–determines which type of EPA Section 608 certificate they need.

Refrigeration Technician Training with MMC
In 2021, NCCER reported almost 85% of HVAC/Refrigeration residential replacements were not installed based on the manufacturers specifications. This same release highlighted almost 40% of the motors being replaced functioned properly when tested in the factory. NCCER aims to improve HVAC/Refrigeration education to increase efficiency and competency among NCCER recognized program graduates.
The goal of NCCER recognized programs is to close the skill gap between HVAC education and what employers seek. NCCER collaborates with subject matter experts to develop additional resources to aid in the success of future technicians.
NCCER also has a registry system which tracks credentials and certifications for industry professionals. This secure system may be accessed by organizations and companies to find potential candidates for new hire positions.
As a refrigeration technician, preparing for and having an NCCER certificate may help you stand out from the crowd. It may also provide a more in-depth understanding of proper procedures, protocols and blueprints during installation, removal, and maintenance.
